Alex is an early career researcher and open-source intelligence analyst. He is a graduate of MSc Crisis and Security Management from Leiden University. Currently, he works with the NGO OSINT For Ukraine as a Wargaming Analyst, designing and facilitating educational simulation workshops using hybrid threat-based scenarios. He concurrently serves as Editor at JASON Institute, where he writes about current security challenges and solutions, focusing on European defence procurement and civil society resilience.
Having grown up witnessing the rise of Russian disinformation campaigns on social media, Alex is a passionate believer in the need for a whole-of-society response to European security issues. Alex seeks to contribute to the discussion on new strategies of societal and democratic resilience, including reinvigorating civil defence plans and investigating how middle powers can balance strategic autonomy within the U.S. led alliance system. He also takes a keen interest in European and NATO deterrence and rearmament strategies, including defence-industrial supply chains, procurement for military hardware and infrastructure.
With this desire to contribute towards the contemporary geopolitical discourse, through educational workshops, open-source intel investigations, media and writing, the Hague Institute for Geopolitics is a natural fit for Alex’s interests and career trajectory. The chance to write about the most important issues in these areas, through conducting expert interviews and learning from the diverse and experienced team at HIG, provides a great opportunity to learn and develop the necessary skills for this field. He is therefore excited and motivated to be a part of HIG, as a fast-growing organisation that is cultivating a broad-based knowledge network, as well as actively growing its presence in the media and public narrative space.
