The International Policy Officer Training Programme (OAIB) is a learning and development programme offered to civil servants from all ministries who wish to specialise in international policy and diplomacy. It is organised within the Academy for International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This programme focuses on developing the knowledge, skills and insight required by civil servants working in an international context.
The EU and India are increasingly seeking each other out, now that the old world order is crumbling before our eyes. The Netherlands is also committed to improving relations with this emerging superpower. In a motion, even the PVV and VVD called for closer relations with India. Yet this ambition raises many questions.
As a civil servant, how do you shape “closer relations” with India? Where exactly do the opportunities lie for the Netherlands? What risks should we not underestimate? What path of development is India on? What is the geopolitical, economic and political vision of Modi and the BJP?
So many questions, so little institutional knowledge
Rajeev Lachmipersad and Michel Don Michaloliákos gave the masterclass “A Taste of India” on behalf of Haagsch Instituut GeopolitiekNu to international civil servants for the Academy of International Relations, so that they can work on improving relations between the Netherlands and India with a better understanding of India.
On a positive note, there was considerable interest – officials from almost all ministries were present. After all, India affects all ministries..
