Not only the national government, but also local authorities are increasingly confronted with the consequences of the fragmenting world order, especially the internationally oriented city of The Hague – the city of Peace and Justice. Against this backdrop, The Hague conducted a Quickscan Resilience, to which our analysts Michel Michaloliákos and Rajeev Lachmipersad contributed at the request of their home and birth municipality.
HIG is actively committed to preparing policymakers – both national and local – for the consequences of the fragmenting world order. Destabilisation by hostile state actors, cyber attacks and sentiments spilling over from conflicts elsewhere in the world are just a few examples, which of course exist alongside the great opportunities that the fragmenting world order brings.
Certainly for the Municipality of The Hague – as a symbol of the “old world order” – there is a lot at stake. We should therefore be keen to actively engage in the debate on The Hague’s role in the new world order, so that the municipality can anticipate global developments in a timely manner.
