At this meeting, our analyst and China sinologist Casper Wits and Marc Moquette, China knowledge envoy for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, first had the opportunity to share their analysis of China’s vision of the new world order, after which the audience was given ample opportunity to ask questions.
Casper Wits warned of China’s aggression, not only in East Asia, but towards democracies worldwide. An alliance of autocratic countries under Chinese leadership is emerging. Marc Moquette emphasised the complexity of our relationship with China, where “all the lights (red, orange and green) of traffic lights are on at the same time”. In concrete terms, this means that the Netherlands must be vigilant about its security interests, but should not shy away from cooperation on climate and green technology.
What kind of meetings does the Hague Institute GeopoliticsNow organise?
During this meeting, we brought together a diverse group of people: from Defence and Economic Affairs to TNO, from politicians and scientists to students and entrepreneurs. In this way, we hope to spread geopolitical knowledge widely and strengthen networks.
We organise meetings that contribute to our mission to better anchor the Netherlands in the new world order. In this way, we want to share geopolitical expertise, strengthen networks and offer a concrete perspective for action for the Netherlands.
