On Thursday, January 22, 2026, an alumni meeting was held for the NCTV Leadership Course in National Security. Together with Marc Kuipers, the National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism, and Ronald Voorn, our geopolitical analyst Michel Michaloliákos gave an in-depth guest lecture.
We were welcomed by Ronald Voorn at the Marineterrein Amsterdam, where the beret parade from the National Resilience Training was also taking place nearby. As strategic behavioral advisor for this training, Ronald took us through the setup and results of this first cohort.
Afterwards, the alumni were addressed by Marc Kuipers, who has been the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security since January 1. Marc reflected on his role and the rapidly developing geopolitical shifts he has had to deal with from day one. He discussed the sense of security that is so different in a society such as Japan compared to Dutch society. With this comparison, Marc also raised expectations for this network and offered inspiration for action and cooperation.
Finally, Michel Don Michaloliákos from HIG – The Hague Institute for Geopolitics took us through the geo-economic circumstances of the fragmenting world order and its consequences for Europe. By embedding the economic perspective in geopolitical developments, he shed new light on the European perspective for action and showed how we can use trust as a shield to make ourselves more resilient.
The Leadership in National Security (LNV) course
The Leadership in National Security (LNV) course is a collaboration between the Academy of the National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism (NCTV), the Netherlands Defense Academy (Institute for Defense Courses), the Netherlands Institute for Public Safety (NIPV), and the Police Academy. In the LNV, leaders and strategists from the public sector, the business community, and civil society organizations learn and experience the challenges surrounding national security and resilience and how to tackle them together.
